After active negotiations and joint efforts from both parties, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand and the Thailand Trade and Economic Office (Taipei) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training on June 20, 2025. The agreement was signed by Representative Chang Chun-Fu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand and Executive Director Narong Boonsatheanwong of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office (Taipei). This marks a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation in technical and vocational education and training.
The Memorandum of Understanding aims to promote deeper cooperation between the two countries in technical and vocational education and training, establishing a mutually beneficial framework. The cooperation will cover areas such as Microelectronics engineering, Electric Vehicles, Aircraft Maintenance, Robotics, Information Technology, Innovation, Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, and Tourism, focusing on knowledge exchange and experience sharing through academic exchanges, expert visits, faculty-student interactions, and internships.
Representative Chang Chun-Fu highlighted that this cooperation marks a new chapter in Taiwan-Thailand relations in the field of technical and vocational education. He emphasized that this initiative will provide greater opportunities for young people to learn and gain hands-on experience while laying the foundation for future collaboration in innovation and technology. The framework will help both countries develop skilled professionals who meet the needs of emerging industries, and deepen integration in education, economic development, and cultural exchange.
According to the World Economic Forum, millions of new technical jobs are expected to emerge globally by 2030, particularly in fields such as information technology, semiconductor manufacturing, and mechanical engineering. In Southeast Asia, especially in Thailand and Taiwan, the rapid growth of high-tech and manufacturing sectors is creating an urgent need for a skilled workforce. This cooperation is a proactive response to these future challenges.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding officially launches bilateral cooperation in technical and vocational education and training. Both Taiwan and Thailand are excited to explore more opportunities for collaboration and to offer a richer, more diverse learning and development platform for students and educators, driving forward mutual prosperity and development between the two nations.
