[April 22, 2026] – The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Thailand, in collaboration with ICONSIAM and the Chinese Gourmet Association (CGA), proudly presented "The Spice Battle – Taiwan vs Thailand" today at SOOKSIAM, ICONSIAM.
This event featured a live culinary showdown between master chefs from both sides, showcasing the rich flavors of Taiwanese and Thai cuisines. In the opening remarks, Representative Peter Lan of TECO in Thailand highlighted the significance of food as a bridge for cultural understanding, noting that this exchange further strengthens the robust relationship between the people of Taiwan and Thailand.
TECO in Thailand remains committed to promoting cultural diplomacy through such engaging exchanges. Dr. Luckana Naviroj, Chairwoman of SOOKSIAM, Mr.Vorapong Sukteera-Anantachai, Deputy Managing Director of SOOKSIAM, and Ms. Shu-Chiu Chen, President of the Chinese Gourmet Association also attended the ceremony as VIP guests.
A Fusion of Flavors and Mastery The event’s highlight was a live cooking demonstration featuring Taiwan’s renowned chefs, Mr. Shun-Yao CHANG and Mr. Yu-Hsien CHUANG, who faced off against Thai chefs Mr. Chanuwat Chanttadilok and Mr. Pat Jaruekthiti. The Taiwanese team presented signature dishes, including “Three-Cup Chicken”, “Beef Noodles” and “Taiwanese Shiu-Chiu Chicken Soup”. The Thai chefs countered with traditional favorites such as "Coconut Juice Minced Pork ", “Khao Soi” and "Nam Prik Jone".
Strengthening Soft Power Diplomacy The 35-member delegation from the Chinese Gourmet Association consists of top-tier restaurateurs and executive chefs dedicated to promoting Taiwan’s culinary heritage globally. Faculty and students from Chitralada Technology Institute also attended the event, fostering professional dialogue and inspiring the next generation of culinary talent. The event concluded with a public tasting session, allowing guests and tourists to experience the diverse "Spice Battle" flavors of Taiwan and Thailand!
