This tender is for the supply, installation and commissioning of a modular, reel to reel narrow web (around 300mm) combination printing press for printing graphics and functional inks. The press will be installed at PETEC (Printable Electronics Technology Centre) at NETPark, Sedgefield, co. Durham.

II.2)QUANTITY OR SCOPE OF THE CONTRACT
II.2.1)Total quantity or scope
This printing press is specified to provide a facility capable of prototyping, pilot scale and small scale production runs in the developing printed electronics industry. It is important that all processes are entirely characteristic of other uses of these processes within the print & packaging industry and the equipment is commercially available.
Flexible servo driven, multiple process, narrow web, reel to reel printing press.
Capability of handling a standard web width of up to 12" or 300mm.
Capable of handling paper, light cartonboard, plastics, unsupported films, foils and self adhesive label stocks with thicknesses of between 25 to 370 microns.
Capable of handling 40" or 1000mm substrate reels with standard 3" (76mm) core and a total mass of up to 350kg.
A four / five unit modular press is able to accommodate all of the following possible process configurations as supplied.
2 offset printing units and 2 flexo printing units inline in one pass
2 rotary screen printing units inline in one pass
1 gravure unit and 2 flexo units inline in one pass (including any additional drying capability specifically required for the gravure station)
The flexo stations should include the option of running chambered units to minimise ink useage.
Printing at least one unit (of any of the above processes) on the face of the substrate and one unit (of any of the above processes) on the reverse of the substrate in a single pass (using either turner bar or alternative reverse-side printing equipment).

Specification should include as separate options any specialist prepress equipment required or recommended for press operation ie. Plate bending and mounting equipment, tool trolleys etc.
