‘Youth Travel’ is a scheme set up by the National Youth Commission in Taiwan to encourage young people aged between fifteen and thirty, from all over the world, to explore Taiwan in a multitude of ways on a limited budget.
Members will benefit from access to an integrated youth travel service, comprising a volunteer tour guide network aimed at backpackers interested in undertaking short visits illuminating certain aspects of Taiwanese culture and a digital tour buddy system complete with 24-hour hotline, Chinese-English translation function and hostel booking assistance.
Foreign students will also be eligible to purchase a Taiwan Rail Pass, which offers pass-holders unlimited use of most rail services in Taiwan. To help travellers identify suitable accommodation along the way, the Youth Guesthouse network provides information upon hostels and hotels across the island.
The Youth Travel Card enables users, both Taiwanese and international, to take advantage of travel-related special offers, including reduced transport and accommodation rates, restaurant and shopping deals, lower-cost admission tickets for various attractions and discounts for Mandarin courses at recognised institutions.
