Taipei Representative Office in the U.K.

We only accept visa applications from

1. British /EU passport holders who reside in the UK,
2. Non British/ EU passport holders must prove they are legitimate UK residents by providing a valid UK residence permit.

Those who are not UK residents must apply for their visas at the Taiwan Mission in their country of residence.

Due to consular district regulations, applicants who reside in the Isle of Man, North England (North of Durham, Cumbria, & Scotland) should apply for their visas through the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, Edinburgh Office .

Nationals from the following countries must fulfill the packaged procedures ：Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ghana, India (Identity Certificate), Iran, Iraq, Laos, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Somalia, Sri Lanka and Syria.

Visa Types:

1. Visitor visa, for those who intend to stay in the ROC (Taiwan) for no more than six months for the purposes of of tourism; visiting relatives/friends; attending international conferences; conducting business; pursuing Mandarin study; undertaking short-term employment; undertaking short-term missionary work etc.
2. Resident visa, for those who intend to stay in the ROC (Taiwan) for more than six months for the purpose of joining family; pursing studies; undertaking employment; conducting missionary work; participating in international exchange programs etc. * For Mandarin studying purposes, the applicant must first apply for a visitor visa. Students of Mandarin studying who have completed their first semester and have proceeded with their enrolment for at least 3 months into the second semester are eligible for a resident visa. They may submit their application to the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

* Resident Visa holders are required to apply for the Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and Re-entry Permit at local service centres of the National Immigration Agency  within 15 days from the next day of their arrival. They may stay in the ROC as long as the Alien Resident Certificate remains valid.

* A police certificate and a medical exam certificate may be requested upon review of an application for resident visa.

General Requirements for Visa Application:

1. Completed & Signed Application Form ：Please fill in the online application form , then print out and sign this form as the applicant.
2. Two Colour Passport Standard Size Photos  ：Photos must be taken within the past 6 months on a plain white background and printed on photo paper.
3. Original Passport  ：Passport must valid for at least for 6 months and with more than one blank page. Non-British/EU passport holders must also provide the original & a photocopy of their valid UK residence permit. We do not accept travel documents and emergency passports.
4. Flight Itinerary : Flight itinerary must include the applicant’s name and the dates of arrival and departure from Taiwan.
5. Proof of Financial Support ：Recent Bank statement covering the last 3 months, this must include the applicant’s full name; or a scholarship certificate issued by the Ministry of Education/ Foreign Affairs.
6. Documents Verifying the Purpose of Visit ：Please see ‘Detailed information for supporting documents’.
7. Other Supporting Document(s) ：After reviewing, the visa officer may require other supporting documents depending on the circumstances of each application. The applicant will be notified.

Submission of Application:

We do not accept applications from overseas. Applicants must be residing in the UK at the time of application.

There is no need to make an appointment. We accept walk-in applications during opening hours.

3. You can send it by post (British Passport Holders Only)

Collection:

1. In person or by an agent (during the opening hours with the receipt)
2. By post: Applicant must provide a self-addressed and stamped return envelope, UK address only.

Fee, Method of Payment and Processing time: We do not accept personal cheques.

1. Cash (only for submission in person/by an agent at the consular affairs counter);
2. Postal Order (available from the UK post office);Please make the postal order/company cheque payable to TRO in the UK (A cheque with an incorrect account name will not be accepted；
3.  Company Cheque.

* We do not guarantee the processing time; individual cases may require longer periods, depending on particular circumstances and the complexity of the case.

Important Information:

Note 1

Visa issuance is an act of sovereignty. The Office has the right to withhold disclosure of further explanations regarding visa approval or declination in accordance with laws and international practices. The visa application fee is non-refundable.

Note 2

During processing, a visa officer may request further procedures and supporting documents, including document authentication and an interview.

Note 3

For the business purpose visitor visa, the Office normally issues ‘Single-Entry Visas’. Should there be exceptional circumstances and need for ‘Multiple-Entry Visas’, please submit supporting documents for further consideration, such as a cover letter, company’s statement and a certificate proving actual business transactions with Taiwanese counterparts.

Note 4

For Mandarin studying, applicants must apply a visitor visa from the Office, including citizens who are eligible for visa exempt entry to Taiwan.

After completing the first term of study in Taiwan, applicants may apply to the Bureau of Consular Affairs for a resident visa, without having to leave Taiwan. For details, please visit the Bureau of Consular Affairs’ website.

Note 5

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that ALL requirements as specified above have been fulfilled and submitted together. Applications made without sufficient supporting documents will result in delayed processing times or being denied a visa.

Note 6

We do not shoulder responsibility for any service not provided by the Office, such as those by the post office, delivery service providers, agents hired by the applicant etc.

Note 7

We cannot accept responsibility for any postal delays which may affect the timely processing of your visa application and therefore strongly recommend that such applications be made in person.
