On 28 March 2018, Representative Lin visited Wales to participate in a one-day conference at Aberystwyth University entitled ‘Public Diplomacy and Taiwan’s Campaign to Join the World Health Assembly (WHA)’, focusing on the international effort supporting Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the WHA. Representative Lin was invited by Professor Gary Rawnsley, Director of the university’s Global Communication’s Research Centre to give opening remarks along with Professor Richard Beardworth, head of the Department of International Politics.
Representative Lin stressed that Taiwan is an indispensible part of the global health security network, a fact that became evident in the SARS outbreak of 2003 which resulted in the deaths of 37 Taiwanese people. The conference resulted in several new strategies and suggestions to advance Taiwan’s campaign to join the WHA across a range of platforms. Following the conclusion of the conference, Representative Lin went on to meet with Mr Simon Thomas AM of the Wales National Assembly to encourage Wale’s engagement with Taiwan in the sectors of Smart City, agricultural cooperation, and trade.
