Taiwanese author discusses his Man Booker International Prize long-listed novel in London

On 17 August, world-famous Taiwanese author Wu Ming-Yi came to London to discuss his latest masterpiece, The Stolen Bicycle, which was long-listed for the Man Booker International Prize. The special event was hosted by the TRO Cultural Division, with Professor Barack Kushner from the University of Cambridge chairing the discussion. In his opening remarks, Representative Lin commented on the profound impact of Wu Ming-Yi’s literary works, which have helped bring Taiwanese culture to many other parts of the world.
Attendees included famous fellow Taiwanese author Hsiao-Hung Pai, members of the Taiwanese community and students of Taiwan studies. The discussion covered various themes in The Stolen Bicycle, including Taiwan’s modernisation, unique environment and colonial history with Japan, then concluded with a Q&A and book signing.
