First annual Taiwan Scholar Workshop at Manchester promotes ‘smart future’

On 15 June, the first annual ‘Taiwan Scholar Workshop at Manchester’ was held by the TRO Division of Science and Technology at the University of Manchester. Under the theme of ‘smart future’, the workshop aimed to traverse interdisciplinary exchanges, integrate different age groups, promote government policies and recruit talents. Around 70 participants from academia and industry attended the event to participate in various interdisciplinary activities. Co-organised by the Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the University of Manchester Taiwanese Society, the workshop was presided over by Director of the TRO Science and Technology, Professor Jiun-Huei Proty Wu, and Yiju Chen from Manchester.
The meeting included 9 talks with 4 keynote speeches focusing on the sciences and social issues related to 'smart future'. The event also featured a series of interactive workshops which involved group discussions and brainstorming on mentorship, critical decisions, bottlenecks and dreams. The workshop received positive feedback and strong online support, founding the basis a new community in research and innovation.
