Representative Siao-Yue Chang signed on 24th December 2008 a sponsorship Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the BirdLife International on “Asian Forest and Climate Change Project”. On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Representative Chang presented a cheque of US$50,000 to Mr. Richard Grimmet, Head of Conservation of BirdLife International at the signing ceremony at the Taipei Representative Office in the UK.
Representative Chang emphasised at the signing ceremony that the ROC government had been actively devoted to the cause and activities of conservation around the globe. In recognition of BirdLife International’s endeavour and achievements, Representative Chang reiterated the ROC government’s commitment to the international conservation via the grant. Having briefed to Representative Chang on the project, Mr. Grimmett expressed the BirdLife International’s gratitude for the ROC government’s generosity and wishes for its continued support.
In order to conserve the forestry in Asia and reduce negative effects to climate change caused by deforestation, the ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs has agreed to sponsor BirdLife International’s “Asian Forest and Climate Change Project” with US$100,000 in two instalments within two years. According to the MOU, BirdLife International will submit the 2009 implementation report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for evaluation before the remaining US$50,000 can be provided to BirdLife International.
