From 4-6 November, a Taiwan pavilion established by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau promoted the country’s tourism under the theme “2020 as the Year of Mountain Tourism” at the annual World Travel Market (WTM), the second largest international travel exhibition. Taiwan Tourism Bureau Chief Secretary Eric Lin led a delegation of Taiwanese officials and business representatives to participate in the WTM. This year’s Taiwan pavilion featured a ceiling with 3D art installations depicting Taiwan's natural scenery to promote eco-tourism, which attracted European visitors. Held at the London ExCeL Exhibition Centre, the 3-day event featured 5,000 travel trade exhibitions which attracted 51,000 visitors from across the world.
On 4 November, Representative Lin delivered remarks at the pavilion’s “Happy Hour” reception welcoming international attendees to visit Taiwan and experience its natural beauty. Chief Secretary Lin also pointed out that from January to August this year, the number of European tourists visiting Taiwan grew to 220,000 people, marking an 11.45% increase from the previous year. People-to-people exchanges between Taiwan and the UK are on the rise as the reported number of visitors from Taiwan to the UK has increased by 40.9% to 164,000 from 2016-2017, while the number of UK visitors to Taiwan grew to 108,200 in 2018.
