This August witnesses the arrival of students from Taiwan’s Shih Chien University to perform the internationally renowned Song Jian Battle Array at two locations in the UK.
The Song Jian Battle Array performance is a lively and exciting dramatic spectacle which fuses Taiwanese martial arts, opera, dance and drumming to portray the spirit of a traditional battle scene. Originating hundreds of years ago in local defence groups which were created to protect villages from bandits in southern Taiwan, now, the Song Jian Battle Array is being reinterpreted by students from Kaohsiung who have gained international recognition performing at events in Taiwan, Hong Kong and the United States.
This will be the first opportunity to enjoy what promises to be a colourful and captivating show in the UK with a performance scheduled at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in London’s China Town. Offering a chance to gain an insight into the cultural diversity of Taiwan and peer into its history through the medium of martial arts and dance, this is certainly an event not to be missed.
