WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 1, 2022) — The Annual National Memorial Day Parade finally returned to Washington, D.C. on May 30 after two years of being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. TECRO Deputy Representative Robin Cheng attended the event on behalf of Ambassador Bi-khim Hsiao to pay tribute to those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice so that others might continue to live in a free and prosperous society.
In his remarks, Deputy Rep. Cheng said that at a time when authoritarian regimes are attempting to undermine our democratic way of life, it is imperative for like-minded countries to work together to safeguard the shared values of freedom and democracy. By continuing to stand up and speak out against authoritarian aggression, Cheng said, the free world can send an unequivocal message that democracy can deliver and that liberty and justice shall prevail.
The ROC Veterans Association in Washington, D.C. organized a joint-flag team to participate in the parade as a demonstration of the bond between Taiwan and the United States, a relationship going all the way back to the Second World War.
