The General Assembly of Delaware passed Senate and House Concurrent Resolution No. 92 on June 9, 2022, reaffirming its 22-year sisterhood partnership with Taiwan, supporting the signing of a bilateral trade agreement between the United States and Taiwan, recognizing Taiwan as a beacon of democracy in East Asia, and supporting Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations.
In addition to attending a celebration of the Delaware state legislature’s new Taiwan Friendship Caucus, Ambassador Bi-khim Hsiao, Taiwan’s representative to the U.S., was invited to speak before the Delaware General Assembly after the resolutions were passed. Hsiao expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the General Assembly for its staunch support for the robust Taiwan-Delaware partnership.
The sisterhood partnership between Delaware and Taiwan formally began on September 12, 2000. Both sides signed a driver’s license reciprocal agreement in June 2014. In 2021, bilateral trade volume reached $252 million. Taiwan is Delaware’s 4th largest export market and 6th largest source of import market in Asia. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office looks forward to strengthening an even closer partnership with Delaware in the years ahead.
