Application Method
You can apply in person or by mail. Please contact the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States located in Washington, D.C. Required Documents
- Fill out the application form.
- Please bring a valid Taiwanese passport, a Taiwan ID card (if you have one), a valid U.S. passport, or a Green Card. Please also provide photocopies of the above documents, originals will be returned after verification.
- A completed Power of Attorney: to be signed in person in front of a consular officer at TECRO.
- Authentication Fee $15 per document. Cash, money order, or cashier’s check (payable to TECRO). Online appointment for walk-in: https://front.eqlvms.net/USA/App/Choose
- For Mail-in Application: If you cannot come and sign in person and request for mail-in, please provide notarized photocopies of the above passports and cards (do not send the originals). Your completed Power of Attorney should be notarized by a notary public within our service areas, covering Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, West Virginia. After notarization, you must get the document authenticated by the relevant Secretary of State's office before mail to TECRO. For returning the documents, it is recommended for you to use prepaid DHL, FedEx, or UPS. Please affix the shipping label to the envelope, ensuring it includes the full address and name, and send it along with all required documents (including all forms and payment).
- For Expired Taiwan Passport or National ID Card Holders: you need to renew your passport first. After obtaining the new passport, you may then proceed to apply for an authentication for power of attorney. For urgent use, a completed Power of Attorney should be notarized by a notary public and authenticated by the relevant Secretary of State's office (Washington DC, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, or West Virginia) before submitting to TECRO.
- For Applicants Under 18: both parents or a legal guardian must sign the document. A relationship document (e.g., birth certificate or household registration transcript) or a guardianship document is required.
