
Towson University's Asian Arts & Culture Center presents "Dream World: Dance and Music from Taiwan" on Saturday, November 4, 7:30 p.m. in Stephens Hall Theatre, located at 8000 York Road in Towson, Maryland.
The Taipei Folk Dance Theater incorporates the influences of Chinese traditional dance with indigenous Taiwanese dance through innovative use of modern dance techniques, to express the rich multicultural fusion of Taiwan, enchanting audiences around the world.
Under the artistic direction of its founder, Li-Hua Tsai, the company will stage a spellbinding program with an array of dances to tell a story that spans centuries of Taiwan's artistic history. Works include “Meditation Through Flower”, “A Gondolier's Romance”, “Autumn Love”, “The Beauty of Taiwan Aboriginal Dance”, “The Song of Kavalan”, “Window of Life” and “Homage to the Gods”. In some works, the dancers create percussive sounds with their bodies.

Taipei Folk Dance Theatre was founded in 1988 by Professor Li-Hua Tsai, and is Taiwan's first professional dance company dedicated to interpreting the cultures of Taiwan's many ethnic groups.. The company's mission is to promote the beauty of Taiwanese ethnic dance, to preserve the dance cultures of Taiwan's aboriginal tribes, and to explore the influence of Chinese traditional dance. The company is renowned for its unique style of traditional Taiwanese folk dance and has played an important role in leading the development of theatrical ethnic dance in Taiwan. They have presented over 600 performances in over 40 countries in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa, receiving numerous top awards in international dance events.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for seniors & students, $10 for AA&CC members, and $5 for Towson University Students.
