The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in the United States will join Filmfest DC in presenting Zone Pro Site: A Moveable Feast. The screenings will be held both on Saturday, April 19, at 6:15 p.m. and on Saturday, April 26, at 3:00 p.m. at the Landmark E Street Cinema.
Zone Pro Site: A Moveable Feast tells the story of the unique ban-doh (辦桌) culture in Taiwan, which in Chinese means outdoor banquets that can be traced back to the agricultural age when formal banquets had to be held on the spot at a time when restaurants and hotels were few and far between. The characters in this comedy showcase the cooking skills of zone pro site (總舖師), the catering chef, on different unexpected occasions in a humorous way. Directed by master of comedies Chen Yu-Hsun, A Moveable Feast puts Taiwan’s traditional ban-doh banquets on the silver screen to show what can happen when we learn to treasure each other’s goodwill through the simple act of preparing food.
Taiwan’s sixth-highest grossing film of 2013, A Moveable Feast is director Chen’s return to the big-screen director’s chair after two acclaimed comedies, 1995’s Tropical Fish and the 1997 Love Go Go. Film Business Asia’s Derek Elley gave the film a rating of eight out of 10. Using ban-doh as a backdrop for the film allows Chen to both show off Taiwan’s indigenous gastronomic culture and demonstrate the important place food has in cultures around the world.
