The recipients of the ROC Ministry of Economic Affairs-organized Taiwan Mittelstand Award were recognized at a ceremony Feb. 26 in Taipei City.
Vice Premier Mao Chi-kuo presented the award, praising the winners for the indispensible role they play in strengthening Taiwan’s industrial foundation.
This award, modeled on the idea of Germany’s Mittelstand sector, gives local small and medium enterprises the recognition they deserve for driving Taiwan’s economic and technological progress, Mao said. They all possess significant development potential, he added.
The recipients are Ching Hung Machinery and Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., CyberLink Co., Elan Microelectronics Corp., Eternal Chemical Co. Ltd., Habor Precise Industries Co. Ltd., LCY Chemical Corp., Merida Industry Co. Ltd., Sheico Group, Syscom Computer Engineering Co. Ltd. and Win Semiconductors Corp.
According to the vice premier, the government’s tailored policies and support measures are paying dividends, with more SMEs expected to follow in the footsteps of the award winners and become dominant players in their respective fields.
A total of 134 outstanding firms were shortlisted for the award in its two editions, with all qualifying for government assistance in pursuing further development.
MOEA statistics revealed that last year, 74 shortlisted companies from the first award utilized NT$302.76 million (US$9.96 million) of government funding to generate NT$39 billion in investment and create 3,540 jobs.
