Television is the most popular media in Taiwan, according to a survey recently conducted by the Institute for Public Opinion of Shih Hsin University in Taipei City.
In the annual intergenerational poll on media usage, the top platform is TV at 89.3 percent followed by the Internet, 73.7 percent; newspapers, 46.3 percent; radio, 30.5 percent; and magazines, 27.3 percent.
The same survey also shows TV as the No. 1 source of news at 60.8 percent, with the Internet No. 2 at 24.8 percent.
Smartphones are the most popular mobile devices. A total of 67.6 percent report ownership, followed by tablets at 14.3 percent and notebooks at 9.2 percent.
In terms of TV viewership, Formosa TV, TVBS and SET TV are the three most watched TV stations in that order, while Public Television Services, TVBS and Discovery are the best overall channels.
Taipei City-based Broadcasting Corporation of China, Police Broadcasting Service and UFO Network are the three most popular radio and best overall stations.
Concerning newspaper readership, The Liberty Times leads the pack, trailed by Apple Daily and United Daily News. The trio is also the three most popular publications of their kind in that order.
As for magazine readership, Business Weekly, Next Magazine and CommonWealth top the chart in that order, while Business Weekly, CommonthWealth and Global Vision Monthly are the three best overall magazines.
First carried out in 2003, this year’s poll was conducted via telephone interviews and received valid responses from 5,000 respondents aged 15-74 years.
