Members of the Taiwan Veterans Association proudly hoisted the flag of the Republic of China (Taiwan) as they marched in a parade alongside hundreds of World War II veterans in Washington, D.C. over Memorial Day weekend. Joined by personnel from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in Washington, D.C., the ROC veterans recalled the valiant sacrifices made by the Republic of China (ROC) and its Allies in World War II.
During the war, the armed forces of the United States and the ROC fought together to repel Japanese aggression in the Asia theater. In addition, thousands of ROC expatriates in the United States also joined the U.S. army and fought with distinction in World War II.
"The Parade to Salute World War II Veterans" featured the flags of the Allied nations, including the Republic of China on Taiwan, Great Britain, New Zealand, Canada, Denmark, France, Norway, Holland, Greece, India, the Philippines, and Russia. The participants' route stretched from the foot of the capitol and headed west along the National Mall. The three-hour event coincided with the opening of the National World War II Memorial on the Mall, and featured honor guards, various military units, and other World War II organizations.
