The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States hosted a celebration October 5th marking the Republic of China’s (Taiwan) Double Ten National Day at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C. Over 2,000 guests attended the reception.
Taiwan’s chief representative in the United States, Dr. David Tawei Lee, presided over the festivities, which included magnificent ice sculptures and a video documentary about Taiwan’s natural beauty.
Many distinguished guests took part in celebrating the nation’s 94th birthday, including Senator Kit Bond (R-MO), Congressional Taiwan Caucus Co-chair Steve Chabot (R-OH), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Steve Pearce (R-NM), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL). Other honored guests included former Senators Bob Dole (R-KS) and Lester Wolff (D-NY), as well as Honorary Chairman of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) William Brown, and former AIT chairmen Therese Shaheen, Nathale Bellocchi, and Richard Bush.
Also in attendance were several ambassadors from countries that maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan, noted think tank scholars, members of the media, and members of Taiwan’s expatriate community.
