In the 112th Congress, there are sixteen newly elected U.S. Senators (3 Democrats, 13 Republicans). The proportion of the number of new senators was unprecedented in recent years. To enable the newly elected senators to have a good grasp of the Taiwan Relations Act and issues regarding the ROC-US relations and to establish a basis for friendship, Ambassador Jason Yuan started calling on these Senators since January 25 when the Senate officially began its sessions. Ambassador Yuan thus far has called on ten new Senators, including:
Sen. John Boozman (R-AR), Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo), Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Michael Lee (R-UT), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN) and Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS).
In addition to the briefing on current ROC-US relations to these Senators, Ambassador Yuan also invited them to visit Taiwan. We are glad to see that Senators John Boozman(R-AR) and Dan Coasts(R-IN) have agreed to join the "Senate Taiwan Caucus" at the invitation of Ambassador Yuan
