The Senate of West Virginia passed the Senate Resolution No.19 on March 12, 2021, reaffirming the 41st anniversary of its sisterhood partnership with Taiwan, supporting the signing of a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between the United States and Taiwan, recognizing Taiwan as a beacon of democracy in East Asia, recognizing the Taiwan Model of effectively containing COVID-19 and supporting Taiwan’s meaningful participation in various international organizations including WHO, ICAO, UNFCCC and INTERPOL.
West Virginia and Taiwan have strengthened their partnership since August 4, 1980. Both sides signed a driver’s license reciprocal agreement in July, 2015. In 2019, the bilateral trade volume exceeded $94.5 million, and Taiwan is West Virginia’s 7th export market in Asia, demonstrating that Taiwan is a key trading partner.
TECRO expresses its appreciation for the continuing support from the Senate of West Virginia and looks forward to strengthening an even closer partnership in the decades to come.
