The General Assembly of Delaware passed respectively the Senate Resolution No. 18 and House Resolution No. 18 on June 29th, 2021, reaffirming its sisterhood partnership with Taiwan for 21 years, supporting the signing of a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between the United States and Taiwan, recognizing Taiwan as a beacon of democracy in the world, acknowledging the Taiwan Model of effectively containing COVID-19 and supporting Taiwan’s meaningful participation in various international organizations including WHO, ICAO, UNFCCC and INTERPOL.
After the passage of the above resolutions, in a pre-recorded message, Bi-Khim Hsiao, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S., expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Delaware General Assembly for its staunch support of the robust partnership between Taiwan and Delaware. Representative Hsiao also expressed her gratitude to the American people for the timely donation to Taiwan of 2.5 million COVID-19 vaccines on June 19th. She noted that once all of the global communities recover together, Taiwan is committed to again partnering with the U.S. in being a force for good in the world.
Delaware and Taiwan have established sisterhood partnership since September 12th, 2000. Both sides signed a driver’s license reciprocal agreement in June, 2016. In 2020, the bilateral trade volume reached nearly $240 million, and Taiwan is Delaware’s 8th export market globally. TECRO looks forward to strengthening an even closer partnership with Delaware in the years and decades ahead.
