Director General Wang visited South Carolina from April 1st to 3rd. During his visit, Chairman of the Corrections and Penology Committee Shane Martin and Speaker Pro Tempore Tommy Pope each highlighted the strong economic and trade ties between South Carolina and Taiwan during the Senate and House floor sessions. They also encouraged fellow lawmakers to join the Taiwan Caucus. Director General Wang was honored with an invitation to observe the proceedings from the balcony.
In addition, Director General Wang was invited to speak about Taiwan in both House Republican and Democratic Caucus Meetings. Many members expressed their appreciation for Taiwan’s purchase of 66 F-16 Block 70 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin in Greenville—a deal that has contributed to the creation of 46,000 local jobs and enhanced Taiwan’s defense capabilities.
Director General Wang also held meetings with several key state officials, including Senate President Thomas Alexander, House Speaker Murrell Smith, Attorney General Alan Wilson, Secretary of State Mark Hammond, Secretary of Commerce Harry Lightsey, and South Carolina Democratic Caucus Chair Christale Spain. Discussions focused on the current political landscape in South Carolina and the future direction of Taiwan–South Carolina cooperation.
To conclude his visit, Director General Wang toured Furman University, where he introduced Taiwan to students, participated in a Q&A session, and explored the campus.
