Director-General Douglas Y.T. Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston (TECO-Boston) attended the welcome reception held by the Conference Group of Taiwan Studies (CGOTS) of the 2018 American Political Science Association (APSA) at the Marriot Copley on August 30.
On behalf of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Director-General Hsu commended CGOTS’ efforts and achievements in promoting Taiwan studies in the United States. Mr. Hsu was especially delighted to see there were many young scholars attending the conference. He also expressed appreciation to CGOTS’ efforts in cultivating young scholars. He encouraged Taiwan’s young scholars to continue to promote research.
This year, CGOTS held three conferences: Support for Democracy in Taiwan; Taiwan Security and Foreign Policy, and Courts and Parties in Taiwan. There are more than 60 people attended the reception, including Dr. Shelley Rigger, Professor of Davison College; Hans Stockton, Associate Dean & Professor Director of the University of St. Thomas; Chung-li Wu, Research Fellow of the Academia Sinica; Chi Huang, Professor of National Sun Yat-sen University; T.Y. Wang, Professor of Illinois State University; Vincent Wang, Professor of Ithaca College; Eric Chen-hua Yu, Associate Professor of National Chengchi University, and Chia-hung Tsai, Director of Election Study Center, among others.
American Political Science Association (APSA), established in 1903, is among the most influential political science organizations in the world. More than 12,000 members from 80 countries attended the annual conference which is a major event in the field of political science. The theme of this year's conference was "Democracy and Its Discontents."
