On behalf of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and in response to Governor Sununu’s call to support medical providers in the fight against COVID-19, Director-General Douglas Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston (TECO-Boston) donated 50,000 surgical face masks to the New Hampshire state government on May 29, 2020 at the Department of Safety warehouse. The donation was accepted by Senate President Donna Soucy and House Speaker Steve Shurtleff on behalf of New Hampshire State government, Senate Chairman of Transportation David Watters, Mr. Paul D. Raymond, JR., Community Outreach Coordinator of the Department of Safety, and Ms. Judith Emmert, Community Outreach Specialist of the Department of Safety, attended the handover. This critical supply will go directly to health care professionals on the frontlines as they work around the clock to treat and save lives in New Hampshire. By taking concrete action, Taiwan has demonstrated its determination to stand with New Hampshire in the war against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taiwan and New Hampshire share a long history of friendship and cooperation. The 50K medical masks are made in and directly shipped from Taiwan. This is also the first time that New Hampshire has received such a donation of masks directly from a foreign government. Taiwan cherishes its partnership with New Hampshire and joins hands with the Granite State during this challenging time.
In addition to the above donation, TECO-Boston also donated an additional 10,500 surgical masks to the New Hampshire State Senate and House and 10,500 masks to the Manchester City Government. Mayor Joyce Craig expressed appreciation for Taiwan’s donation which took place at the Manchester Central Fire Department.
We are all in this together. During this difficult time, Taiwan stands with New Hampshire in our common fight against COVID-19. Taiwan can help and Taiwan is helping! Together, we will win!
