Ms. Anne Hung, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston, hosted a reception for the 102nd National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston on the evening of October 8, 2013. Over 700 guests filled the Grand Ball Room, including prominent members of the various State Senates and Houses of Representatives, city and local governments, business, and academic communities from across the New England area.
It was an honor to share on the joyous occasion marking the ROC’s National Day with distinguished guests that included the Honorable Harriette Chandler (D-MA), Assistant Majority Leader, Massachusetts House of Representatives and the Honorable Ronald Mariano (D-MA), Majority Leader, Massachusetts House of Representatives, who presented a joint resolution by the State Senate and House “Reaffirming the Friendship between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Taiwan.” Massachusetts State Representatives Donald Wong (R-MA), Tackey Chan (D-MA), and Kevin Honan (D-MA) also joined on stage for the reading and as an expression of friendship between Taiwan and Massachusetts.
We were especially honored to have the Honorable Elizabeth Crowley (D-RI), State Senator, Rhode Island, present a Senate resolution “Reaffirming the Friendship between the State of Rhode Island and the Republic of China (Taiwan), Strengthening Bilateral Trade Relations, and Supporting Taiwan’s Participation in International Organizations.” Senator Crowley was joined by the Honorable Brian Patrick Kennedy, State Representative, Rhode Island, in extending congratulatory wishes.
New Hampshire State Representative Pamela Tucker (D-NH) spoke on the importance of bilateral trade relations between Taiwan and New Hampshire, and of the wonderful friendship shared with the people of Taiwan. She was accompanied on stage by State Representative Marilinda Garcia (R-NH).
Boston City Council President Stephen Murphy presented a resolution extending congratulations to the Republic of China in recognition of the National Day. Following the presentation, Mr. Nick Clemons, District Director for the Honorable Joseph P. Kennedy, III (D-RI), United States House of Representatives, spoke on behalf of the Congressman to extend his congratulations for the celebration, noting “the close cooperation between our two countries, as well as the growing strength of our friendship.” The evening was topped off with a toast by Director-General Hung to the friendship between the United States and the Republic of China, followed by a cake cutting ceremony.
