Did you know that from January 19 to 24 this year, a group of Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) students passionate about Taiwan formed the "2025 Taiwan Trek" delegation and visited Taiwan?
On March 7, Taiwan Trek members took part in a reunion hosted by TECO-Boston to share their experiences and observations of Taiwan. In addition to introducing various scholarships, grants, and cultural exchange activities in Taiwan, TECO-Boston encouraged everyone to join the Taiwan Alumni Association (TAA) for students who have studied in Taiwan. Our office prepared delicious Taiwanese snacks, such as Taiwanese popcorn chicken, pork belly bao, pineapple cakes, and bubble tea. Members took part in a few fun pop quizzes with prizes, allowing everyone to relive and share their best memories of Taiwan.
While in Taiwan, the delegation visited government officials and essential institutions, including Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao, former President Tsai Ing-wen, Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an, the National Security Council, Academia Sinica, and TSMC. They also visited well-known cities and area attractions such as Tainan, Jiufen, and night markets. Trek members were particularly impressed by Taiwan's vibrant society, semiconductor and high-tech industries, and contributions to global public health.
Director-General Charles Liao thanked the organizers for giving American students a deeper understanding of Taiwan's democracy, economic development, and various challenges. He also welcomed the students to visit Taiwan again to experience more amazing food, beautiful scenery, and the warmth and hospitality of the Taiwanese people.
