On May 2, the Vermont State Senate passed Taiwan friendship resolution S.R.12, clearly stating that U.S. policy toward Taiwan is based on the Taiwan Relations Act, not UN Resolution 2758.
Highlights from the resolution:
- Taiwan’s right to participate in international organizations and financial institutions.
- Strong support for Taiwan’s international engagement.
- Calls for signing a U.S.-Taiwan Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement (ADTA); and
- Recognizes the 2023 U.S.-Taiwan “Initiative on 21st-Century Trade” and the entry into force of its first agreement in late 2024.
Following the Vermont House resolution in March, this is yet another powerful show of support for Taiwan. Many thanks to all our friends for their friendship and support!
