The “2025 Rhode Island Dragon Boat Races & Taiwan Day,” co-hosted by TECO-Boston and the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, kicked off in grand style on August 30 along the Pawtucket River! This summer celebration has reached its 24th year, and Governor Dan McKee presented a special citation to Director-General Charles Liao to thank Taiwan for its long-standing support and participation in Rhode Island’s signature annual event.
U.S. Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI), in his remarks, shared highlights from his June visit to Taiwan and meeting with President Lai, praising Taiwan’s democratic achievements and experiences. Other distinguished guests included Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos, Treasurer James Diossa, and Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, who joined the crowd to enjoy Taiwanese culture firsthand. Governor McKee also stopped by TECO’s booth, where he admired Taiwan’s creative designs and vibrant cultural soft power.
We were also delighted to welcome back the Overseas Community Affairs Council’s National Day Cultural Mission to perform and celebrate with us. With the UN General Assembly opening on September 9, Governor McKee even joined the “Formosan Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors” (FASCA) Boston Chapter students to cheer for Taiwan’s participation in the UN: UN for TAIWAN!
