Taipei 101 model is permanently displayed in the Skyscraper Gallery of the Chicago Architecture Center
Chicago is an American Architecture Capitol, and architecture is one of the special travel appeals and attractions of the city. The Chicago Architecture Center (CAC) is a leading organization in architecture and design and is one of Chicago's top ten cultural destinations. On the second floor is the Skyscraper Gallery, in which supersized scale models of famous skyscrapers from Chicago and around the world, including the Willis Tower of Chicago and the World’s tallest building Jeddah Tower of Saudi Arabia. It attracts more than 100 thousand visitors annually.
Last year, President Angela Chang of TAIPEI 101 MALL 台北 101 購物中心 visited Chicago and hosted a “WOW 101, WOW Taiwan” reception, in which President Chang donated a Taipei 101 model to CAC, under the facilitation and at the witness of Director-General Eric Huang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago.
With the addition of the Taipei 101 models and others, the Skyscraper Gallery undertook a renovation project and recently reopened to the public. CAC President & CEO Lynn Osmond invited Director-General Eric Huang to tour the Gallery and the new Taipei 101 model. Illinois State Davis William Rep was also invited and shared his unforgettable experience of visiting Taiwan and Taipei 101 twice.
Taipei 101 was the World’s tallest building from the year 2004 to 2010, and is still the tallest green building globally. It was officially recognized as one of the “50 Most Influential Tall Buildings of the Last 50 Years” by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) last October.
Taipei 101 was designed by intentionally integrating traditional and modern elements of Asian architecture, with the basic design inspired by the image of a bamboo stalk rising high into the air. It has now become the architectural symbol of Taiwan.
