As Typhoon Champi approaches Guam, Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero has declared Condition of Readiness 2 (COR 2), effective at 1:00 p.m. on October 16, 2026.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Guam urges Taiwanese nationals and members of the Taiwanese community residing in or visiting Guam to remain vigilant, closely monitor the latest typhoon updates and official advisories issued by the Government of Guam, and take the following precautionary measures:
- Prepare Emergency Supplies
Stock up on sufficient drinking water, nonperishable food, essential medications, flashlights, spare batteries, portable power banks, and first-aid supplies in preparation for possible disruptions to water, electricity, and transportation services.
- Secure Your Home and Surroundings
Secure or bring indoors loose items from balconies, yards, and other outdoor areas that could be blown away by strong winds. Inspect windows, doors, and drainage systems, and clear debris from nearby drains to minimize potential damage from strong winds and heavy rainfall.
- Stay Alert to Flooding Risks
Residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas should remain especially cautious of heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Avoid walking or driving through flooded roads, and limit nonessential travel.
- Make Emergency Preparedness Plans
Confirm emergency contact information for family members and friends, identify nearby emergency shelters, and familiarize yourself with safe evacuation routes. Pay special attention to the needs of elderly family members, young children, and others who may require assistance.
- Monitor Official Updates
Stay informed through official announcements from the Government of Guam, Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), and the National Weather Service Guam. Follow all safety advisories, emergency instructions, and evacuation orders issued by local authorities.
