With the assistance of TECO in Guam, on Dec. 1, 2020 Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan, accompanied by Taoyuan City Government Secretariat Director Yan Zijie and Starlux Airlines CEO Zhai Jianhua, held a one-hour video conference with Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero with the presence of TECO in Guam Director General Paul Chen. The conference was also attended by some high ranking officials from Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB), Guam Economic Development Authority(GEDA) and Guam Airport Authority. Mayor Cheng and Gov. Leon Guerrero exchanged opinions on issues, such as disease prevention, sister cities, sister airports, Taiwan air company's plan to restart flights to Guam, as well as cooperations in trades, tourism, agriculture, academy, education and indigenous culture. During talks with Gov. Leon Guerrero, Mayor Cheng especially thanked Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu for his efforts to make this event possible. Gov. Leon Guerrero said Taiwan has 23 million people with just less than 600 confirmed cases for COVID-19 and 7 related deaths so far. Taiwan’s success in disease prevention is worth learning from for other countries. She also voiced Guam Government's support for Taiwan's inclusion in WHO and other international organizations. After the conference, Director General Paul Chen represented Taoyuan City Government to donate 16,000 face masks to Guam Government. Gov. Leon Guerrero extended her appreciation and wrote down "Taiwan can help! Guam is inspired by you". Mayor Cheng and CEO Zhai also wrote seperately "Taoyuan is helping." and "We Will Be Fine." For now, both sides are looking forward to further cooperation and development in the future.
