Director General Michael Tseng was invited by the Asia Pacific Affairs Leadership Program of the Pacific Forum to speak on "Taiwan in Asia Pacific" on November 16. During the visual meeting, DG Tseng briefed Taiwan's history after World War II, mentioned that US defense and economic assistance to Taiwan during this period helped create a secure environment in which Taiwan was allowed to develop and progress.
DG Tseng emphasized that as the only free and democratic country among ethnic Chinese communities, Taiwan is the example for China's peaceful transition. DG Tseng further suggested that Taiwan and the US should enhance bilateral cooperation on the basis of shared values and common interests, so as to ensure peace and development in the Indo-Pacific region.
When asked about Taiwan's success on containing Covid-19, DG Tseng highlighted that the Taiwan government wins people's trust with full communication and transparent decision-making, and this is the key to Taiwan's triumph over the pandemic.
