Director General Jerry Chang attended the opening ceremony of the 10th Pacific Islands Leadership Program (PILP), where over 20 emerging leaders from across the Pacific gathered in Honolulu! The event was also joined by newly appointed EWC President Celestine Connors and Consul General of Palau in Honolulu, Uchel Naito.
We’re especially proud to see three amazing Indigenous youth from Taiwan in this year’s cohort:
1. Tanivu Akuayana (Cou/ Tsou) – Journalist at Taiwan Indigenous Television (TITV)
2. Sra Manpo Ciwidian (Amis) – Ph.D. student at the University of Hawaiʻi
3. Resdres Salijan (Paiwan) – M.A. student in Anthropology at National Tsing Hua University
These three are bringing Indigenous perspectives from Taiwan into the regional dialogue and working to build meaningful Indigenous-to-Indigenous connections across the Pacific!
DG Jerry Chang also took the opportunity to introduce Taiwan to the young leaders, highlighting the important role Taiwan plays in today’s international landscape. He warmly answered questions from participants who were curious about Taiwan, making it a lively and engaging session. The event wrapped up successfully!
