TECO in Houston's laptop donation helps Lone Star College Houston North Students
Director-General Robert Lo of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Houston attended a laptop donation ceremony at Lone Star College Houston North and happily met with Dr. Quentin Wright, President of Lone Star College Houston North, Community Relations Executive Director Ashley Turner, and Executive Director Nicole Robinson of the Lone Star College Foundation on March 9, 2021. Director-General Lo was joined by Education Division Director Shuya Yang and Vice Consul Weiling Chen of TECO in Houston.
TECO in Houston made a donation to Lone Star College Houston North last December to buy the equipment needed for students to continue their studies during the pandemic. Director-General Lo said in his remarks that TECO is also part of Houston community and has always been eager to contribute to good causes with meaningful impact. Noting the pandemic’s impact on educators and students alike, he hopes the limited resources TECO is able to provide can be helpful to those in need.
Dr. Wright thanked TECO for the generous donation and described the impact on students who did not have access to computers and internet. He stressed that this timely donation helped enable the school to continue delivering quality education to Lone Star students.
Ms. Elizabeth Giron, a student representative who attended the event, shared how the donation has helped with her studies. Unable to download class videos on old computers at home, she was finally able to catch up with class after receiving a new laptop. She will graduate this year and has already found employment in the nursing sector. She shared her gratitude for TECO providing assistance that helped her complete her studies.
