If you possess a Taiwan passport valid for less than 6 months or is not the latest version, you are encouraged to renew your passport at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston (TECO in Houston) or any other foreign missions of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Requirements and procedures for general cases are listed below for your attention and preparation:
- A duly completed Application Form for ROC (Taiwan) Passport (Passport Application Form English Sample)
- An original and most recent Taiwan passport
- Two identical passport photos (1.77x1.38 inches, color) (Guidelines for photo)
- If the applicant has a Taiwanese ID issued after December 21, 2005, the original Taiwan ID or the photocopies of two sides of the original Taiwan ID are required.
- Applicant's US passport, green card, resident visa, or other photo ID.
- Other relevant certificates may be required by TECO in Houston for additional verification.
- Application fee: $45 (valid for 10 years)/ $31 (5-year)/ $10 (1-year).Payment Methods: Cash, Money Order, or Cashier’s Check payable to “TECO in Houston.” Note: Personal checks are not accepted.
- Special Required Documents:
- If your previous passport does not include a National ID Number of the Republic of China (ROC): Please present your ROC National Identification Card, Household Registration Transcript, or Household Certificate (original and a copy. The original will be returned after verification; the copy will be retained for our records.)
- For applicants under the age of 18: One parent or legal guardian must sign the consent section on the back of the application form and attach identification documents (if the parent/guardian is a foreign national, a foreign passport must be submitted). Proof of parent-child relationship is also required, such as a Household Registration Transcript issued within the last three months, a birth certificate, or legal guardianship documents.
- If you have a US passport or US permanent resident card, please give us a copy!*** If your old passport has “Overseas Compatriot Identity Endorsement” stamp (僑居身分加簽):
Option A: if you don’t want to transfer it to the new passport, please write “cancel Overseas Compatriot Identity Endorsement” in the blank space. Option B: If you want to transfer it to the new passport, please provide: (1) an original US passport or a notarized copy. (2) 護照加移簽僑居身分申請書
- For male applicants of military age: If military service has been completed, please provide the Military Service Certificate or proof of exemption.

- By proxy:
- Authorized relative(e.g., grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren): You shall submit a letter of authorization, the proxy’s ID, and proof of relationship.
- If authorizing a non-relative: You shall submit a notarized letter of authorization, the proxy’s identification, and relevant supporting documents.

- Document Pickup Options:
- In-person or by authorized representative: Present the payment receipt to collect the passport. (The office is not responsible for documents not claimed within three months of the designated pickup date.)
- Return by mail: Please provide a self-addressed Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope with $11 prepaid U.S. postage and sign the Mail Delivery Services Agreement. (The office is not liable for any delays or losses caused by the postal or courier services after dispatch.)
