On May 15, 2025, Dr. Tai-Yuan Chiu, Taiwan’s Minister of Health and Welfare, published an op-ed in Beacon Media News and 21 of its local newspapers, calling for international support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA).
In his piece, Dr. Chiu reflected on the 30th anniversary of Taiwan’s National Health Insurance system and emphasized Taiwan’s contributions to global health. He urged the international community to support Taiwan’s inclusion in the WHA, highlighting the importance of solidarity, equity, and cooperation in addressing global health challenges.
As the WHA78 takes place in Geneva, Switzerland, on May 19–27, 2025, with the theme “One World for Health”, Dr. Chiu’s article serves as a timely reminder that health should know no borders, and that every voice matters in the global fight for a healthier future.
