The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics might still be two years away, but "Team Taiwan in Southern California" has already fired the starting pistol on logistical preparations.
To ensure our national athletes have a "Home away from Home" while competing in the U.S., the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Torrance, California. Not only will Torrance provide top-tier athletic training facilities, but they have also thoughtfully included access to a dedicated kitchen! This means our athletes will be able to enjoy steaming hot, authentic Taiwanese comfort food even while battling it out overseas.
Director General Jason Ma and the TECO-LA team recently visited Torrance Mayor George Chen—who himself was born in Taiwan—to witness this highly meaningful moment. During the signing ceremony, DG Ma stated with a completely straight face, "As a Taiwanese, I firmly believe that when our athletes are fueled by authentic Taiwanese cuisine, they can truly unleash 100% of their potential." This deadpan remark not only drew warm laughter from the room but also resonated deeply with every Taiwanese living abroad.
Beyond sports facilities, Mayor Chen also shared Torrance’s blueprint for LA28 and beyond, which includes advanced transportation planning and smart city initiatives—which are exactly where Taiwan’s tech industry excels. We hope that starting with this Olympic logistical support, we can spark more win-win collaborations between Torrance and Taiwan in fields like smart mobility, autonomous systems, and sustainable development.
A massive thank you to Mayor George Chen and the City of Torrance for their full support. In 2028, let’s all come together in L.A. to be the strongest support system for Team Taiwan!
