Taiwanese orchids steal the spotlight in South Florida.
From Jan 16–18, Miami-Dade hosted the Tamiami International Orchid Festival, the region’s largest orchid show. Former Taiwan Orchid Association chair Gao Ji-Ching and board member Hsiao Yuan-Chuan led a delegation of seven Taiwanese growers, showcasing Taiwan’s innovation in orchid breeding, cultivation, and variety development.
Director General Charles Chou visited the festival to explore Taiwan’s standout orchids, including Phalaenopsis, Paphiopedilum, and Oncidium, which drew strong interest from visitors for their beauty and quality.
The festival also featured a presentation by a Florida International University PhD student who conducted orchid research in Lanyu last year, further highlighting Taiwan’s reputation as the “Kingdom of Orchids.”
