Taiwan’s Representative to the United States Amb. Alexander Tah-Ray Yui and Mme. Karen Lo, accompanied by TECO in Miami Director General Charles C.Y. Chou, visited the newly established manufacturing facility of PharmaEssentia in Puerto Rico (PR) on April 20 during their official visit to the island. The delegation was accompanied throughout the tour by COO Sam Lin, PR’s Assistant Secretary of Economic Development Soraya Morón, Director of Investor Relations at InvestPR Denisse Rodríguez, and Mayor Bernardo Márquez of Toa Baja.
During the visit, COO Sam Lin introduced the company’s global strategy for its product, Besremi, and outlined its long-term expansion plans for the U.S. market. He noted that the product has already received regulatory approval in more than 50 countries, with plans to complete certification and begin production at the Puerto Rico facility by 2027. As the United States represents one of the company’s key markets, this investment marks a major milestone in transforming PharmaEssentia’s manufacturing model from a Taiwan-based production hub into a dual-engine Taiwan–U.S. manufacturing platform.
Ambassador Yui emphasized that Taiwan–U.S. relations are stronger than ever and that this is an ideal time for manufacturing investment to expand into the Western Hemisphere. He noted that PharmaEssentia’s investment in Puerto Rico demonstrates the strong complementarity of Taiwan–U.S. economic cooperation and contributes significantly to strengthening supply chain resilience and economic security.
This investment not only represents an important strategic expansion for Taiwanese biotech companies in the biomedical market of the Western Hemisphere, but also highlights the growing depth and diversity of the Taiwan–U.S. symbiotic partnership across multiple sectors.
