Women have enjoyed an increasing share in the number of employed people in Taiwan with more women working in traditionally male-dominated industries, according to a study released Thursday.
Female employees accounted for 56 percent of the total employed people worker this year, compared with 52 percent in 2009, according 104 job bank, one of Taiwan's largest online recruitment websites, which released the results of the study on International Women's Day.
Taken from 300,000 valid samples from the website's database of 5 million members, the study showed that 39 percent of workers in the transport and logistics sector were women, an increase of 16 percentage points from 2009's figure, the largest gain among 15 sectors in the report.
In addition, women constitute 42 percent of the workforce of the construction and real estate sectors, up 12 percentage points from 2009, while 44 percent of workers in the agriculture, forestry, fishing, energy, and mining sectors were women, up 10 percentage points.
Meanwhile, 79 percent of workers in the health care sector were women, the highest among all sectors, followed by 73 percent in the cultural and education sectors, and 66 percent in the fields of law, accounting, consulting, and research and development, according to the report.
Female workers in recent years have worked hard to build up their careers and have broken down many gender stereotypes in the workplace, said Regis Chen, 104 Job Bank's marketing director.
