Shanghai, March 8 (CNA) The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Shanghai authorities Thursday on holding a trade fair featuring made in Taiwan (MIT) products in the city between April 4-8.
More than 800 Taiwan-based companies had registered to participate in the four-day fair that would feature some 40,000 MIT items, according to the state-funded TAITRA, the organizer of the fair.
TAITRA's president and chief executive Chao Yuen-chuan told reporters that the fair would focus particularly on Taiwan's mechanical industry, noting that Taiwan was the world's fourth-largest mechanical equipment exporter.
Chao also said that as the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement signed between Taiwan and China did not cover all mechanical products, the government should consider including other mechanical items in the agreement in the future.
The previous 13 Taiwan trade fairs in China organized by TAITRA saw 4 million visitors in total.
