London, Feb. 19 (CNA) Taiwanese fashion designer Ming-Pin Tien unveiled his 2013 Autumn/Winter collection Tuesday at London Fashion Week, impressing the audience with a diverse mix of colors and textures.
Inspired by the Chinese-language movies "The Flowers of War" and "Nanjing! Nanjing!" the London-based Tien juxtaposed feminine beauty with the harshness of war.
Highlighting pastel colors and patchwork fabrics of varying shades, the collection, titled "Bye Bye Youth," featured some 20 uniform-inspired ensembles and contrasted feminine shapes with sharp cuts and geometric patterns.
After the show, Tien said he faced more challenges in preparing this year's collection because he had to come up with more separates, and he also showed hats, shoes and knitwear for the first time.
Damian Santamaria, editorial director of Sublime, a UK-based fashion magazine, felt the show was successful and said he believed Tien's designs could be commercialized, which he said was what a new fashion designer needs.
The 28-year-old Tien was showing his designs at London Fashion Week for a second season in a row, and he was also the third Taiwanese designer this year to participate in the Autumn/Winter 2013 event, after Chen Shao-yen and Apu Jan.
Tien, who received a master's degree in Fashion Design and Technology: Womenswear from the prestigious London College of Fashion in 2012, created the brand "Ming" the same year and was invited to show his designs at Spring/Summer 2013 show in September 2012.
He was also named the "One to Watch" winner by Fashion Scout, a noted fashion blog based in London and Paris.
