Taipei, Dec. 30 (CNA) Taiwanese passport holders can now obtain visa waivers, landing visas or e-visas to 161 countries and territories after three more countries recently granted Taiwan such privileges, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.
Starting from Jan. 1, 2016, Taiwanese passport holders will be able to enter the South American country of Chile visa-free, the ministry said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan in Central Asia has granted Taiwan landing visa treatment, while the East African country of Rwanda has included Taiwan in its e-visa system, the ministry added.
Despite the visa privileges, travelers who plan to visit the three countries should still have the required documents, such as return tickets and travel plans, ready for immigration checks upon their arrival, the ministry said.
The 161 countries and territories that have given Taiwan visa privileges include the United States, Japan and all 28 European Union member states. It covers most of the areas frequented by Taiwanese travelers, according to the ministry.
