Background information
COVID-19 has exposed the inconvenient truth of widening inequality within countries and globally. The pandemic is disproportionately impacting people of different gender, race and class, deepening the existing socio-economic divides.
Since the pandemic outbreak, we have witnessed female heads of state and women on the frontlines and in our communities lead effective responses in managing the crisis. UN Women stated, “the leadership style of women leaders in the COVID-19 response have been described as more collective than individual, more collaborative than competitive and more coaching than commanding.”
To recover from this crisis and make sure that no one is left behind, transformative leadership must be adopted in the post COVID-19 era. We need a more diverse and inclusive decision-making process to build back a better and resilient future for all.
