1. Authentication for Power of Attorney and/or Affidavit
※ Our consular service jurisdiction covers four states, namely New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. We only accept documents issued within the four states. For documents produced out of our service area, please check the weblink (Consular District) to find a competent mission.
If the application is submitted by an agent, please present a notarized Letter of Authorization with the agent's original and a scanned copy of ID.
Document to be authenticated plus an extra copy. The applicant should sign the document in person at our consular service counter.
Fill in Application request Form;
A scanned copy of the Applicant’s valid ID with signature and the remark "a true copy of the original".
Document to be authenticated should be signed and notarized, plus a scanned copy of it.
NOTE: If the content of a POA and/or Affidavit concerns disposition of properties/real estate, inheritance, bank accounts, business/commercial statements, tax returns and adoption, the document should have been notarized by a notary public and authenticated by the Secretary of State (or Treasury) from the which state the document was produced in.
Chinese Translation
Please note that a Chinese translation and its English original document are handled as two authentications. A Chinese translation has to be written with traditional Chinese character (正體中文)。
Two ways to have a Chinese translation authenticated; namely,
(A) The applicant signs on the Chinese translation in person at our consular service counter or, if by mail, signature on Chinese translation should be notarized by a Notary Public; or,
(B) With the English document authenticated by TECO, a Chinese translation can be notarized by a Notary Public in Taiwan.
Processing time, rate and payment
Regular: 10 working days at $15 per item.
Expedite (subject to capacity of this office): 5 working days at an extra fee $7.5 per item.
Chinese translation at $15 per item.
Payment by cash, money order or cashier’s check, payable to TECO in NY; we don’t accept credit card or personal check.
How to submit an application
By appointment: Our consular service is available from 09:00 to 11:00, Monday through Thursday. Click to make an appointment online.
Walk-in: There is a limit of 25 walk-ins daily. In practice, we will start to handle walk-in customers from around 11:00 to 13:00 after customers by appointment have been served. Walk-ins can take a number from 08:45 on a first-come-first-served basis.
Drop-off: An application placed in an envelop can be dropped off in the mail box at the ground floor lobby during our office hours. (Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm)

To claim your document
by pickup: With the receipt or ID and no appointment necessary, picking up on the cited date or afterwards at any following Tuesday and Fridayfrom 15:00 to 16:00; otherwise by online appointment or walk-in-take-a-number during office hours. (Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM)
By mail: Prepare a self-addressed-stamp-affixed return envelope. By doing so, the applicant agrees to take the risk of lost or damage during delivery, TECO-NY will not be liable for any damage or lost.
By courier: Please provide a shipping label printout or email PDF file to consular.ny@mofa.gov.tw
