U.S. Driver’s License Authentication (for exchanging the Taiwan driver’s license)
This authentication is ONLY for Taiwan passport holders (citizen/non-citizen passport) or U.S. citizens who hold a valid Taiwan resident certificate (ARC) with a validity period of at least 6 months.
The driver’s license must be a valid non-commercial driver’s license and issued by the six state governments under our jurisdiction. Applicants must provide the original driver’s license to us for checking against its copy when applying for authentication.
For all other instructions regarding authentication (such as processing time, Fees and Payment Methods, Return Envelope, etc.) please refer to the "General Instructions for Document Authentication."
Please submit the following materials when applying:
For either walk-in applicants or applications via mailing:
- Application Form for Authentication: Each applicant must complete and sign the form. Applicants can submit multiple documents under one application.
- A clear copy of the Taiwan passport: Color/Black and white (U.S. passport holders, please see the Notes below).
- The applicant’s original driver’s license and its COLOR photocopy: The copy must be a color copy of both sides and must be on the same page. The original will be returned to walk-in applicants while submitting or sent back with the document via mailing.
Notes:
- If the applicant is a U.S. citizen and can only provide a copy of the U.S. passport, the applicant must also provide the following required documents:
- A driving record issued by the authority of the state within 3 months.
- A valid Taiwan resident certificate (ARC) with a validity period of at least 6 months.
- Additional identification might be requested while the documents are reviewing.
