Office Hours: The Consular Division counter service hours are Monday to Thursday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Note: After 1:00 PM and all day on Fridays are reserved for processing applications (including mailed cases) and internal operations; the office is not open to the public during these times.
Important Notes:
- Processing Time for e-Passports: Approximately 8–10 weeks. E-passports must be sent back to the Bureau of Consular Affairs in Taipei for fabrication, requiring a longer production time. Please ensure you allow sufficient time for application.
- Emergency Entry (Taiwan Passport Expired within 6 months): If you need to enter Taiwan immediately due to an emergency and your Taiwan passport expired less than six months ago, you may still board a direct flight from the United States to Taiwan. However, please confirm with your airline before departure.
- Emergency Entry (Passport Expired over 6 months): If you must enter Taiwan immediately due to an emergency and your Taiwan passport has been expired for more than 6 months, please provide proof of the emergency. This office will issue a "Certificate of Entry" instead, which can be used to board the flight and enter Taiwan along with your expired passport.
- Emergency Use in the U.S.: If you need to use a Taiwan passport in the U.S. immediately due to an emergency, please provide proof of the emergency and apply for a non-biometric passport (the process is the same as for an e-passport). Please note that this passport is not valid for visa-waiver travel.
- Jurisdiction: Please note our consular jurisdiction covers Northern California, Nevada, and Utah. Documents requiring notarization must be notarized by a notary public licensed within this jurisdiction to be processed.
- Please use the P2_checklist-Passport Renewal and Replacement
