Director General & Mrs. Joseph Ma were invited as honored guests to attend the U.S. premier of a Taiwanese performing group led by Pao-chang Tsai in Solo Date at the San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) on May 31, 2018. To represent the only performing group from Taiwan invited by SFIAF, Mr. Tsai had demonstrated a format of an unique one-man theatre play and attracted the full attention of the audiences at the annual event held at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. Director General Ma at the after-show reception acknowledged that over the years Mr. Tsai has helped the rest of the world better understand and appreciate Taiwan. He has been producing plays reflecting a local Taiwanese perspective, now that he is trying to mix the Taiwanese senses with western drama spirits. Innovative, elegant and moving, Solo Date uses new media to explore loneliness and longing, desire, and need. It also asks profound questions about amorality and ethics of the interactive technologies humankind increasingly relies on.
